Up there with the great cultic questions like should John Travolta be made a captain in seaorg...

If only these cults stopped at giving themselves silly titles

Certainly no saint. She was an evil, deluded bitch and caused a lot of unnecessary suffering. I use the word 'delude', because I will give her the benefit of the doubt and not call her sadistic.

And yet it's killed more than both, put together, in just one year. Something Christopher Hitchins agreed with seeing as you brought him up.

Re: Should Mother Teresa be made into a saint?
There was a great documentary about her so called mission in Calcutta, fronted by the incomparable Christopher Hitchens.

The inmates of her mission were lying on mats on the floor with their heads shaved, like concentration camp victims. They were malnourished, dehydrated and given not even basic medical care.

Since they were all terminally ill their remaining days were made more painful and their suffering augmented by the madness of the batty Albanian who was a self-styled hero of the common man.

She was nuts. She announced after her Nobel Peace Prize win that the greatest threat to world peace was abortion. There are several candidates for that title - but abortion? Only an idiot could put that ahead of nuclear weapons or Islamic fundamentalism.

Let the Catholics make her a saint. Who cares. What is a saint anyway?

1985s point is that, whether she deserves respect or not, the RC view of sainthood is not biblical, like mosr RC practices,

Re: Should Mother Teresa be made into a saint?
She was moved by the sight of people dying in the street and started to help them. She inspired hundreds of thousands to do the same. Every night her convents in London send out soup kitchens and feed homeless people within their walls.

We live in a strange age. Perhaps if she made nature programmes and lived in Henley we would all venerate her.

That's not what Catholics believe about sainthood.

Re: Should Mother Teresa be made into a saint?
People can't make other people a saint.

A misguided, pointless practice by ill-informed but well meaning Catholic people who like rituals and in some instances, worship humans!!

The New Testament uses the word saint or saints 67 times. In every instance, the reference is to all believers (e.g., Acts 26:10; Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:2). Never is the word used of a special group of believers who serve God better than others. Scripture is clear that all Christians are saints.

This biblical view is much different from the traditional Roman Catholic view of saints. In Catholic theology, saints are a special class of believers who have been canonized. Canonization is the process by which the Catholic Church confers sainthood upon a person based on that person's special deeds. It is an honor bestowed posthumously. In contrast, the Bible views every Christian as a saint, as someone set apart for God's work. Ephesians 4:12 teaches that the spiritual gifts are given "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." Clearly, the "saints" are ordinary Christians involved in service in the church.

Christians are called saints because they are called to live set apart from the corruption of the world. Followers of Christ are called to be holy (1 Corinthians 1:2; 1 Peter 1:15-16).

Simon Templar, eat your heart out.
